If all else fails and Artie Lange couldn't get anything any other gigs in show business, do you think he'd consider working on the radio outside of Howard Stern? I'd like to think that the answer would be "no," but if he's desperate enough, he just might.
I imagine Artie being like Danny Bonaduce, working with someone like Adam Carolla. Of course, it would have to be an afternoon show since Artie can't go back to the schedule. It obviously doesn't work for him.
I could see that possibly happening in L.A. away from the ridicule he'd get in New York. He'd still be able to plug his standup, too.

Artie on a different radio show? I doubt it. What would he do? On the Stern show, he's one of 5 stars, plus a "supporting cast". On almost any other show, he'd have to be a leading figure, and I don't see any evidence that he would be willing or even able to do that much. It would require much more work then simply showing up. He's been getting paid big bucks to sit there and make funny comments, a privilege that he abused and took for granted by eating all day and falling asleep. Who's gunna hire him to that on another show?
Artie should start working on his own pilot for a tv show. It's the only way he'll be able to convince the suits that he'll take the job seriously because it will be his name and rep on the line...

I don't think Artie would maintain a permanent 'fixture' on any other radio show. Stern's show is the biggest in the business, anything else would be a step down...I highly doubt Artie would commit to the rigors of a full-time radio gig if it isn't on HSS.
He'd likely make regular 'guest' appearances on either one or several shows, just as a promotional vehicle for his stand-up gigs and movie appearances, but that's about it.
Remember, Artie is a Stern FAN, and I'm sure regardless of what happens, he'll always remain loyal to Stern and not want to be perceived as a competitor.
Artie's not going anywhere. Believe me, they need him, he needs them. They can be so brutal to each other on that show. They were really relentless in attacking Artie with George Takei's PSA, High Pitch Mike, Dr Ablow and then this thing with Teddy. Artie was getting meaner and more bitter as they pushed him to the brink. Artie needs a long vacation, quit his stand up gig for a bit, lose some weight, get on some antidepressants, and get his head together.
I love Artie, but Howard is an enabler.

Yeah, I hate to say it, but most of the people on that show enabled Artie. It was such crap every time someone said that they can't do anything for him because Artie is an adult. I don't know if it would have done any good, but the least they could have done is punish him with a suspension for sleeping on the job. They guy fell out of bed at work and stayed asleep, for goodness sake. Even if they didn't think it was a big deal professionally, they should have punished him because he obviously needed to clean himself up for his own good. Instead it became a joke.
I agree with all of your steps that Artie should take. I think it will be really hard for him to quit standup, though. He's addicted to the money and fame and afraid to pass up on any gigs. If he can manage to do it, though, and be happy with the decision, he'll be well on his way.

Over working is another classic symptom of addiction. Artie probably has an easier time 'justifying' his addiction issues if he feels he earns the 'right' to them by working hard and making good money. It's just classic denial. 'I worked hard, so I deserve to unwind'.
Doug Goodstein's comment certainly doesn't sound promising as far as Artie's return to the show goes. Is he just cashing in on the 'cliff-hanger' coaster, or is Sirius really tired of the drama that comes along with employing Artie?
I gotta say, Artie's troubles make for great radio, which is likely why he's so loved by the fans and coddled by Howard. Howard sounds old, bored and tired...and Artie's issues provide endless, brainless material for the show.
I dunno, I guess we'll find out next week. I really hope he's not off the show, but at the same time hope for whatever is best for Artie. He can't go on like this, he's going to end up dead.
