Howard Stern brings up Dr. John Sarno every once in awhile and plugs his books about psychosomatic conditions. I just took a look at Sarno's Wikipedia page, and it lists as one of four notable people who sing Sarno's praises (one of them is Anne Bancroft who's dead now.) Anyway, I guess Howard had back pain or something that Sarno told him was all in his head and he got better?

Today Howard talked about how Jordin Sparks, who is suffering from vocal hemorrhaging, should "run" to Sarno. Granted, Robin told half the story and didn't say that the girl is hemorrhaging...just that she lost her voice, but Howard said that it sounds like "a classic case of hysteria." Why would a person jump to the conclusion that a physical problem is a mental one?

Hey, girlfriend. That bleeding in your throat...it's all in your head! Wow.

Dr. Sarno, Like Dr. Ablow is just another classic example of Howard trying to shove his psychobabble down everyone's throat. He seems to think Sarno cured him of his psychosomatic back pain and most of his OCD. But yeah, Howard's sort of making Sarno out to be a faith healer now.

Although I think that kid on American Idol who said he had vocal paralysis once might be a good candidate for that kind of "healing", hemorrhaging from your throat may require medical intervention.

Don't knock it until you've seen the miracle that Dr. Sarno's mind body connection has produced. Dr. Sarno does not preach that "it's all in your head" as you so flippantly state. Through the evolutionary process, our ancestors with the strongest ability to overcome fear and stress are the ones that survived (and passed that "attribute" down through the ages). It's a fact that pain is the brain's way of overriding fear. Ancient man could hunt while experiencing pain, but were paralyzed if they felt fear. It's pretty difficult to hunt and eat when you're paralyzed. Pain is a biological, evolutionary response to fear, stress, anger and anxiety. Pain overrides everything. Why do you unconsciously scratch an itch? Because the act of scratching causes pain which overrides the uncomfortable sensation of itching. Once the pain of scratching subsides, the itch returns...and you scratch it (unconsciously) once again. Stern (and my 29 year old son) have experienced miraculous cures because of Dr. Sarno. He is not some new-age, crystal worshiping crazy. He, along with a host of medical professionals at HARVARD have discovered the mind body connection and literally thousands have a new life because of this doctor.
