I hate to compliment the Howard Stern Show when it's away on vacation, but I have to admit that the Stuttering John special was pretty interesting. They aired John's first appearance and some of his interviews. It was really a piece of history.

It made me remember that the show has had a long and varied past, and it's coming to its end unfortunately. This Artie Lange thing will probably encourage Howard to retire even more. He just doesn't have the energy anymore for any of this crap.

The show will probably continue to go downhill the next couple of years. I doubt they will even put much energy into finding a replacement. What's the point for only two years?

I have to agree about the Stuttering John special. I enjoyed it more then I thought I would.

It also made me realize that, despite whatever problems may or may not exist between Stuttering John and the show, John worked pretty hard for the show compared to Artie. I mean, I love Artie. But really, what did he do for the show, other then make a few funny comments in between mouths full of chicken parm and cupcakes? He never goes out of his way to write a funny bit or come up with any ideas at all really. He just sits there and eats and collects his check. And sometimes sleeps while he's doing it...

I think the show is only going to go down hill if Howard lets it. Two years is a long time, when you consider how much good radio you can fit into it. There's absolutely no reason to just give up because one guy had a predictable meltdown that everyone there enabled and saw coming. Artie should leave for good because obviously being on the show is killing him.

There are a lot of people out there that would kill for the honor of sitting in that chair. I have no idea who it should be at this point, but I'm sure that whoever it is will work their ass off. There will be high expectations, and maybe they'll actually write some funny bits of their own and contribute something fresh.

A lot of people have come and gone in the history of this show. There is no reason why Artie leaving needs to be the end. If it goes downhill from here, it's all on Howard.
