Is it me? Seriously. I don't get Benjy. At all. I don't want to go so far as to say I don't like him, because there are times he sounds like a decent guy. I just don't 'get' him.
He can seem like a 'normal' guy, then all of a sudden, he's like this little kid saying the stupidest things to get attention.
He kinda creeps me out, to be honest. He's supposedly this creative writer for the show...but, he's not funny. I mean, HE'S NOT FUNNY. What has he written that is 'funny'?
To me, the funny parts of the show are the things that just 'happen'...or when Sal and Richard come in the studio. Fred's unscripted 'Prez of Eritrea' was funny to me...'we are in desperate need of new scapels!' Artie is funny, just being Artie.
I dunno...I must be missing something with Benjy. He just doesn't seem to fit, but Howard must like his work to keep him onboard.
I wish I could figure out if he's a normal guy trying to be different, or if he's a wack job trying to be normal.

I think he's a normal guy trying to act crazy all for the sake of getting attention. A person not seeking attention doesn't brush one's teeth in the hall at work. He knows better, and acting like he thinks his behavior is fine is another part of his schtick.
I don't know much about what he does on the job except when I hear jokes every so often that Howard is obviously being fed. It doesn't seem like there's much writing going on so I'm not sure what else he does. Maybe he's constantly doing real-time internet research for Howard to supplement what he's saying. He probably comes up with bit ideas, too, but there really aren't that many bits these days.

From what I gather, he's a really nice person behind the scenes, but he's annoying when they let him on the mic every now and then. I hear he writes some funny stuff and he's willing to be an idiot for Howard when he needs it. Sometimes his bits are funny.

There's just no explaining Benjy...I don't dislike him, but I do find him kind of annoying. And I could not possibly care any less about this Paris Hilton BFF shit he's doing. What's the whole point of that anyway? I don't know anything about his upbringing, be he at least appears to be a text book only child who is starving for attention...
