Artie Lange seemed way off base today by pointing out that he's not the only one who says the word "fag" around the show. I don't remember in the past few years anyone else really saying it (apart from Sal Governale) and certainly not out of anger like he has. He said that even Howard says it and he had Jason pull tapes of it.
1. Is it necessary for Artie to prove via tapes that other people sink to the same level?
2. Should he throw Howard under the bus?
3. Isn't it different if you say a slur at your angriest than just in passing?
I think that even if Howard Stern has said "fag" in the past, which I'm sure he has, it wasn't at the same level as Artie who was spitting nails while doing it. It's ridiculous that Artie doesn't see the difference. I'd love to hear the tapes that he's pulled. I can't believe they'd compare to his rants.

I think it's 'how' Artie uses the word that's offending.
But, yeah, Howard has used the word many times in the past. I think Howard is just getting older and trying to 'fit in' with the Hollywood scene more. Howard has made a career off of being inappropriate...and probably wishes he didn't use the 'fag' or 'nigger' word in the past now.
Artie's from Jersey, and grew up in a 'hardened' group. The word 'fag' to him is probably a macho way of calling someone a 'sissy' or a 'pussy'. Guys from macho backgrounds seem to have a need to attack another man's masculinity when it comes to tossing insults around.
I think Artie has a point about the word being used by others...but, he's missing the fact that he RELIES on the word....others don't.

Obviously, there is no right or wrong way to use the word, but Artie says it with such venom and hate. I know he's just a Jersey guy and all, but he's much more intelligent than that and can find other inventive ways of insulting people.

I agree.
But, Artie is also a mess. He's not in control of his life, his habits or his emotions. His anger is out of unhappiness, not lack of intelligence. Until he finds some sort of inner peace, he won't change.
Brains aren't going to help Artie out any...he needs to do whatever it takes to gain control of his life and deal with the issues that causing him to self-medicate himself to death.
I think Artie knows what he's got to do, he's done it before...he just never put an honest effort into it.
So, for now...prepare to hear him spew some nasty words when he gets angry...lol

I love the clip Artie was using to state his case awhile back with Gary telling someone to take another hairbrush in the butt. I think it's pretty obvious that alot of them say things in a moment of anger.
It sounds to me like Artie is getting help, which is what he needs, but I sure hope they don't neuter him or they all become the PC police. It's the only reason I tune into the show and if they start watering it down, it just won't be the same.
